Set Up Guide

This guide will walk you through everything you need to get started — from the initial setup to adding your movies, TV shows, music, and podcasts. Whether you’re on SteamOS or Windows, just follow the steps for your device and you’ll be ready to enjoy your library in no time.

How to Set Up Zuno (SteamOS / Steam Deck)

Step 1 — Initialize Your Storage

When you launch Zuno for the first time, it scans for drives and sets up the correct folder structure.

Zuno will show a popup for each external drive it detects, asking if you want to set it up. Internal storage is set up automatically.

Zuno creates a folder layout on each drive it initializes, for example:

/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Movies
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/TV
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Music
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Podcasts

Note: If your storage device isn’t being detected by Zuno, check it in SteamOS: press the Steam button → Settings → Storage. Make sure the card or drive is listed and recognised there.

Step 2 — USB Stick Method

1. Prepare your USB stick on your PC

‍Format your USB stick as exFAT (if it isn’t already) so both your PC and Steam Deck can read it. Copy your movies, TV shows, music, or podcasts onto the stick.

2. Plug the USB stick into your Steam Deck

‍You’ll need either a USB-C stick, a USB-A to USB-C adapter, or a USB hub/dock.

3. Switch to Desktop Mode

‍Hold the Power button → select Switch to Desktop.

4. Open your USB stick

‍In Desktop Mode, open the file manager. Click on your USB stick to mount it — it will then be accessible.

5. Copy files into your Zuno folders on your SD card

‍For example:

/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Movies
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/TV
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Music
/run/media/deck/SD card name/Zuno/Podcasts

‍Copy your files from the USB stick into the correct folder.

6. Return to Gaming Mode and open Zuno

‍Switch back to Gaming Mode and launch Zuno. It will run a quick sync, then your new content will appear in the library.

Tip: If you don’t have a USB stick, or if you’re transferring a larger library, you might find network transfer more convenient. Tools like Warpinator (on the Steam Deck) and Winpinator (on Windows) let you copy files over Wi-Fi. You can find a step-by-step tutorial in this video.

Note: If your drive isn’t being detected by Zuno, open This PC in Windows Explorer and check that it appears there. If it doesn’t, open Disk Management and make sure the drive has a letter assigned.

Step 2 — USB Stick Method

2. Plug the USB stick into your Steam Deck
‍Use a USB-C stick, a USB-A to USB-C adapter, or a hub/dock depending on your device.

3. Open the USB stick in File Explorer
‍Windows will mount the drive automatically. You’ll see it listed under This PC.

4. Copy files into your Zuno folders on the handheld

For example:

D:\Zuno\Movies
D:\Zuno\TV
D:\Zuno\Music
D:\Zuno\Podcasts

‍Copy your files from the USB stick into the correct folder.

5. Open Zuno

‍Launch Zuno on your handheld. It will run a quick sync, then your new content will appear in the library.

Tip: If you don’t have a USB stick, or if you’re transferring a larger library, you might find network transfer more convenient.
